Barbara Chalmers, Director

Barbara Chalmers

I’m a practitioner, a pragmatist, a polymath. To trade, I’m a communication strategist. I have a Masters in Design Innovation. I’m also a project developer and manager, facilitator, coach, adviser, trainer.

With decades of experience under my belt, most of them at senior management and Board level, there’s not much I haven’t turned my hand to. I am used to partnership working, collaboration. I have great networks to pull on to match the people to the task; that’s what the Collective is all about.

I facilitate workshops and conversations; audit and review services; develop options appraisals and strategies; coach in-house staff; deliver one-day training and workshops at all levels; provide strategic inputs to build capacity in teams. I give talks and presentations, from Pecha Kucha blasts to keynote speeches.

My greatest strength is working with people – listening, sharing, building understanding, developing ownership, creating team spirit and partnership ethos.

“I bring creativity, fresh ideas, energy and enthusiam.”

I’ve worked with celebrities, politicians, Lord Provosts, Chairs, CEOs, MDs, Boards, community groups, committees, staff teams, elected members, academics, unions, children and young people, students, the public.

I’ve worked across diverse areas from economic development to education, lifelong learning to public arts, housing to environmental issues, construction and development to social change projects.

I’ve been integral to shaping, launching and growing organisations and teams; creating change; communicating complex policy; driving award-winning projects; building stakeholder relations; directing high profile campaigns.

I’m a qualified Executive Coach (Strathclyde Business School), qualified in Counselling Skills (COSCA), Life Coaching (Scottish Institute of Life Coaching) and a qualified independent celebrant.
